Nora Gump's experience in several fields of music has made her a versatile and exciting artist to work with. An avid performer, Ms. Gump has won several scholarships and awards for her solo, chamber and orchestral abilities, which in turn have given her the opportunity to study with such teachers as Sally Peck, Ulrich Eichenauer, Patricia McCarty, James VanValkenberg and Doris Lederer. She has performed in masterclasses for such greats as James Dunham, Amadi Hummings, Marie Lambros and John Graham, as well as the Juilliard, Pacifica, Degas and Audubon String Quartets.
Believing that music should be readily available to the public, Ms. Gump has arranged several concert series, inviting the public at no cost. A freelance musician as well, she has played for several orchestras throughout the Southeast, as well as opera and ballet companies.
Ms. Gump is also an advocate for music education, and has served as a guest artist for several public school orchestras and youth symphonies. She has recorded educational materials for private and classroom teaching for publishing companies such as Lorenz Publishing, C. Alan Publications and Lynne Latham Music. An experienced educator, Ms. Gump’s students have been recipients of numerous awards for their performances, solo and orchestral.
Ms. Gump is currently a member of the Ars Nova Chamber Orchestra, Washington DC's first ever conductor-less orchestra. She has also played with several of the region's orchestras, including the Maryland Symphony and National Philharmonic Orchestra.
Having received her B.M. and M.M. in viola performance from the North Carolina School of the Arts, Ms. Gump is currently a Candidate for the DMA in viola performance at Shenandoah Conservatory, where she studies with Ms. Doris Lederer of the Audubon String Quartet.
Ms. Gump is the Lecturer of Upper Strings at Juniata College. She is also an adjunct instructor of music history at Hagerstown Community College. Ms. Gump also holds a studio of violin and viola students in Northern Virginia. |
